The Chancellor
The Honourable Murray Sinclair, CC, MSM
The Honourable Murray Sinclair鈥檚 legal credentials are well known. What is less well known is that he is Anishinaabe and a member of the Peguis First Nation. He is a Fourth Degree Chief of the Midewiwin Society, a traditional healing and spiritual society of the Anishinaabe Nation responsible for protecting the teachings, ceremonies, laws, and history of the Anishinaabe. His Spirit Name is Mizhana Gheezhik (The One Who Speaks of Pictures in the Sky).
His Honour graduated from law school in 1979. He has been involved with the justice system in Manitoba for over 40 years, first as a lawyer representing Indigenous clients, as an Adjunct Professor of Law at Robson Hall, as Associate Chief Judge of Manitoba鈥檚 Provincial Court and as a Justice of the Court of Queen鈥檚 Bench. He was the first Indigenous Judge appointed in Manitoba and Canada鈥檚 second.
He served as Co-Chair of the Aboriginal Justice Inquiry of Manitoba and as Chief Commissioner of Canada鈥檚 Indian Residential Schools Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC). As head of the TRC, he participated in hundreds of hearings across Canada, culminating in the TRC鈥檚 widely influential report in 2015. He also oversaw an active multi-million dollar fundraising program to support various TRC events and activities, and to allow survivors to travel to attend TRC events. In 2017 Governor General Julie Payette awarded him and the other TRC Commissioners the Meritorious Service Cross (Civilian) (MSC) for service to Canada for their work on the TRC.
He was active within the profession and his community and was a member of the faculty of the National Judicial Institute training judges about Indigenous law and social justice issues. He has won numerous awards, including the National Aboriginal Achievement Award, the Manitoba Bar Association鈥檚 Equality Award (2001), its Distinguished Service Award (2016) and the CBA President鈥檚 medal (2018). He has been named as one of Canada鈥檚 Indigenous People鈥檚 Counsel (IPC) by the Indigenous Bar Association.
He has received Honorary Doctorates from 19 universities. He retired from the Bench in January 2016, and was appointed to the Senate on April 2, 2016. He retired from the Senate effective January 31, 2021, to return to the practice of law and to mentor young lawyers.
He has been invited to speak throughout Canada and internationally, including the Cambridge Lectures for members of the Judiciary of the Commonwealth Courts. He continues to maintain an active public speaking schedule and was named the 15th Chancellor of Queen鈥檚 University in July 2021. His Honour is currently writing his memoirs.

Patrick Deane
Patrick Deane became the 21st Principal and Vice-Chancellor of Queen鈥檚 University on July 1, 2019. He is the former President and Vice-Chancellor of McMaster University, a position he held for nine years. Prior to that he served as Provost and Vice-President (Academic) at Queen鈥檚 and also held a number of academic administrative appointments at Western University and the University of Winnipeg. Dr. Deane is a Professor of English Literature, with his principal research focus being the relationship between cultural production and British politics in the first half of the Twentieth Century. He read English and Law at the University of Witwatersrand, South Africa, before undertaking graduate studies and receiving both an M.A. and a Ph.D. in English Literature from Western University. Dr. Deane was the first recipient of the John Charles Polanyi Prize for Literature in 1988.

Mary Wilson Trider
Mary is President & CEO of Almonte General Hospital and Carleton Place & District Memorial Hospital. She is a graduate of the Smith School of Business (B.Comm) and a FCPA, FCA. Mary is active in numerous healthcare industry committees. Previous Board service includes Ontario 211 Services Corporation, United Way of York Region (Past Chair), Booth Centennial Healthcare Linen Services (Past Vice Chair) and the National Ballet Endowment Foundation. Petra Fachinger - Senate Appointee
Petra Fachinger has a PhD in Comparative Literature from UBC. She teaches in the English Department at Queen's and is affiliated with the graduate program in Cultural Studies. Her research interests include Canadian literature, Indigenous literatures, and diaspora studies. Her publications focus on Indigenous-settler relations in Canada, intergenerational trauma, Asian Canadian literature, and environmental crisis literature. She is recipient of the Chancellor鈥檚 Research Award and the Principal鈥檚 Teaching and Learning Award: Promoting Student Inquiry.

Allison Williams - QUAA Appointee
Allison Williams, Artsci鈥09, is a practicing lawyer at one of the province of Ontario's specialty community legal clinics, Justice for Children and Youth (JFCY). Originally from small-town Northwestern Ontario, Allison threw herself into student life while attending Queen鈥檚. She obtained an Honours Bachelor of Arts in Political Studies with a minor in Women's Studies (2009); however is most proud of being honoured with the Agnes Benidickson Tricolour Award upon convocation for her distinguished service to the University in non-academic extracurricular activities. Allison went on to obtain her Masters of Arts from the University of Toronto (2011), before getting her Juris Doctor from Osgoode Hall Law School (2015). Allison was called to the Ontario bar in 2016. Prior to taking up the QUAA President's role, Allison served for four years as the QUAA Board's Director of Giving, promoting alumni philanthropy and giving through Queen's.

Tazrian Alam
Tazrian is Senior Manager at Royal Bank of Canada鈥檚 (RBC) Financial Crime Team where she leads and manages quarterly reports to RBC鈥檚 Board of Directors and Risk Committees. She is a Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialist and a graduate of the Queen鈥檚 University (BAH鈥13, PolSci) and University of Western Ontario (MA鈥14, International Relations ). During her time at Queen鈥檚 she was a member of the Queen鈥檚 Model United Nations Team and Model Parliament Team. She also worked at Stauffer Library while studying at Queen鈥檚. Letitia Golubitsky is an experienced professional in the banking industry who has worked for more than a decade in Capital Markets Risk Management and Enterprise Risk across four Canadian banks. Letitia is currently Senior Manager at Scotiabank. Dr. Letitia Golubitsky is a mathematician by training holding a PhD in Mathematics from Western University, a Master of Science in Mathematics from 成人大片 and a Master of Science in Financial Mathematics from McMaster University. Letitia started her career as a quantitative developer in Model Development at TD bank working on mathematical models for counterparty credit risk. She moved to a more senior role in Capital Markets Risk Management at CIBC working as a senior commodity developer for market risk and counterparty credit risk. Letitia has worked for the past six years in Model Validation at Bank of Montreal and she recently joined Scotiabank as a Senior Manager in Model Risk. Dr. Letitia Golubitsky is the Chair of the Canadian Artificial Intelligence 2022 conference leading the Industry track.
Letitia is a member of Global Risk Institute and Women in Capital Markets non profit organizations. Sari is a Consultant at Environmental Resources Management (ERM), focused on Social Performance initiatives across Canada and abroad. Sari graduated with a M.Sc. in Environmental Change and Management at the University of Oxford, focusing her research on just transition framings around Alberta鈥檚 thermal coal phase-out and implications for equity and justice. Her specialty is conducting qualitative research and field interviews, engaging with stakeholders at various levels, and supporting organizational resilience and growth. Sari grew up in the Rockies in Canmore, Alberta with a passion for outdoor adventures and is a proud '19 BSc grad from Queen's. Current term to 2024.
