The Honourable Murray Sinclair’s legal credentials are well known. What is less well known is that he is Anishinaabe and a member of the Peguis First Nation. He is a Fourth Degree Chief of the Midewiwin Society, a traditional healing and spiritual society of the Anishinaabe Nation responsible for protecting the teachings, ceremonies, laws, and history of the Anishinaabe. His Spirit Name is Mizhana Gheezhik (The One Who Speaks of Pictures in the Sky).
His Honour graduated from law school in 1979. He has been involved with the justice system in Manitoba for over 40 years, first as a lawyer representing Indigenous clients, as an Adjunct Professor of Law at Robson Hall, as Associate Chief Judge of Manitoba’s Provincial Court and as a Justice of the Court of Queen’s Bench. He was the first Indigenous Judge appointed in Manitoba and Canada’s second.

He served as Co-Chair of the Aboriginal Justice Inquiry of Manitoba and as Chief Commissioner of Canada’s Indian Residential Schools Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC). As head of the TRC, he participated in hundreds of hearings across Canada, culminating in the TRC’s widely influential report in 2015. He also oversaw an active multi-million dollar fundraising program to support various TRC events and activities, and to allow survivors to travel to attend TRC events. In 2017 Governor General Julie Payette awarded him and the other TRC Commissioners the Meritorious Service Cross (Civilian) (MSC) for service to Canada for their work on the TRC.

He was active within the profession and his community and was a member of the faculty of the National Judicial Institute training judges about Indigenous law and social justice issues. He has won numerous awards, including the National Aboriginal Achievement Award, the Manitoba Bar Association’s Equality Award (2001), its Distinguished Service Award (2016) and the CBA President’s medal (2018). He has been named as one of Canada’s Indigenous People’s Counsel (IPC) by the Indigenous Bar Association.

He has received Honorary Doctorates from 19 universities. He retired from the Bench in January 2016, and was appointed to the Senate on April 2, 2016. He retired from the Senate effective January 31, 2021, to return to the practice of law and to mentor young lawyers. 
He has been invited to speak throughout Canada and internationally, including the Cambridge Lectures for members of the Judiciary of the Commonwealth Courts.  He continues to maintain an active public speaking schedule and was named the 15th Chancellor of Queen’s University in July 2021. His Honour is currently writing his memoirs.

Patrick Deane became the 21st Principal and Vice-Chancellor of Queen’s University on July 1, 2019. He is the former President and Vice-Chancellor of McMaster University, a position he held for nine years.  Prior to that he served as Provost and Vice-Principal (Academic) at Queen’s and also held a number of academic administrative appointments at Western University and the University of Winnipeg. Dr. Deane is a Professor of English Literature, with his principal research focus being the relationship between cultural production and British politics in the first half of the twentieth century.  He read English and Law at the University of Witwatersrand, South Africa, before undertaking graduate studies and receiving both an M.A. and a Ph.D. in English Literature from Western University. Dr. Deane was the first recipient of the John Charles Polanyi Prize for Literature in 1988.

Niki Boytchuk-Hale, BFA’23, B.Ed.’24, is pursuing a thesis-based M.Ed. in curriculum studies. She has held roles related to media, communications, and policy within the Alma Mater Society, the University Relations Department, and the Human Rights & Equity Office. Niki is an inclusive, action-oriented, and people-centred leader. She believes the best decisions are made by diverse groups of people and will work to make Queen's a better place by collaborating with students to co-create outcomes with shared benefits and establish mutual responsibilities between students and the administration.

Reem Al-Rawi (She/Her) is a third-year Bachelor of Health Sciences Student at Queen’s. She is passionate about equity, diversity, inclusion, indigeneity, and accessibility. As the newly elected Undergraduate Trustee, she is eager to advocate for these important issues during her term. Beyond her role on the Board, Reem is deeply interested in healthcare and cardiovascular health, and currently holds positions as co-chair of the Mental Health Awareness Committee and co-founder of the Queens Cardiac Research Committee. Reem is honored to have the opportunity to serve on the Board and looks forward to learning from her fellow Trustee members. Elected by the Undergraduate Students - current term to 2025.

Mr Court is a Senior Partner Emeritus, McKinsey & Company having worked in 5 offices globally.  He was on McKinsey's global Operating Committee and Board of Directors, and in addition to serving clients was the Firm's Global Director of Technology, Digitization and Communications.   David is currently a board member at Canadian Tire Corporation, Brookfield Business Partners, Public Service Pension (PSP) Investment Board, National Geographic Partners, Women's College Hospital and Plan Canada International.  He formerly chaired the Smith School of Business Advisory Board and currently chairs the Advisory Board for Georgian Partners, a Venture Capital Firm focused on Artificial Intelligence as well as some of their portfolio companies. Czech-born Canadian, Eva now lives in France. From 1980's until 2002, she served in senior positions at Universities Canada prior to becoming Secretary General of the International Association of Universities, an international non-governmental organization located at UNESCO in Paris, France. She stepped down in 2017, though remains actively involved in several international higher education organization, including the Magna Charta Observatory in Bologna, the European University Institute in Florence, the Centre for Global Higher Education in London and the Arqus European University Alliance. Nancy Evans is Executive Director, Corporate Affairs & Strategic Initiatives at Smith School of Business at Queen’s University. At the school of business she is responsible for strategy implementation, operations optimization, and marketing and communications. Prior to joining Queen’s, Nancy held senior private and public sector roles including Vice President, Communications and Stakeholder Relations for a provincial regulatory agency, Senior Vice President at a leading Canadian public relations, and Director, Global Communications at Manulife Financial. She holds the Chartered Director designation and has held multiple board roles. She recently completed a two-year term as Chair of Quinte Health. Rebecca Manley is an Associate Professor in the Department of History. At Queen’s, Rebecca has assumed a number of leadership roles, including Department Chair and interim Director of Jewish Studies. She has also served on numerous committees dealing with issues ranging from budget to curriculum. A specialist in Soviet history, Rebecca is the author of a prize-winning book on the evacuation and flight of Soviet civilians during WWII. She is currently completing a SSHRC-funded book on the changing face of hunger in the late Imperial and early Soviet eras. Rebecca is also an award-winning instructor with a strong commitment to providing a first-rate education to students. Elected by the Faculty - current term to 2027.

Linda received her LLB from Queen’s, was most recently the Senior Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of Manulife Financial Corporation. Prior to that, she was the Executive Vice President of Digital Banking, Payments and Cards at Royal Bank of Canada. Before her operational roles, she worked as a global consultant at McKinsey & Company and practised law at Davies Ward Phillips & Vineberg LLP in Toronto. Currently, Linda serves on public company boards (McKesson, Dayforce and Maple Leaf Foods) and invests and is a board member in various private companies. In the community, she is a Director of Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre and of Greenwood College School. Linda has been twice recognized as one of Canada’s Top 100 Most Powerful Women. Todd Mattina, PhD is SWIB’s Head Economist, Asset & Risk Allocation CIO.  Before joining SWIB, Todd was the Senior Vice President, Chief Economist, and Co-Lead of the Multi-Asset Strategies Team at Mackenzie Investments, located in Toronto.  This role included supporting multi-asset and currency strategies by building proprietary investment models and assessing the investment implications of expected macroeconomic conditions.  Todd also contributed to the design and implementation of new investment programs, ranging from alternatives to multi-asset portfolios. He also led production of Mackenzie’s annual report on Long-Term Capital Market Assumptions, which covers over twenty public and private asset classes, long-term expected currency valuations, and the global macroeconomic outlook.  Prior to this role, Todd was Vice President of Portfolio Construction, Chief Strategist and Chief Economist at Investment Management Corporation of Ontario (IMCO).  He also served as the Chief Strategist and Economist of Asset Allocation and Alternatives at Mackenzie Investments.  Earlier in his career, Todd worked at the International Monetary Fund (IMF) in Washington, D.C. as a Deputy Division Chief, where he focused on macro-fiscal policy.  He has also worked as a Portfolio Manager of Emerging Market Currencies at Canada Pension Plan Investment Board (CPPIB) and contributed to investment models in the G-10 currency, cross-country equity selection and tactical asset allocation strategies.  Todd holds a PhD in Economics (International Macroeconomics & Finance) from Queen’s University in Ontario, an MA in Economics from the University of British Colombia in Vancouver, and a bachelor’s degree from Queen’s University.  Todd currently serves as a Board Trustee of Queen’s University and Chair of the Queen’s Investment Committee. Dean McCann retired from Canadian Tire in 2020 after a 24 year career with Canadian Tire Corporation during which he helped to steer the business to unprecedented earnings and its most financially successful years in the company’s 97-year history. As Executive Vice-President and Chief Financial Officer for Canadian Tire Corporation, Dean McCann was an integral member of the executive team that successfully led the Company through large scale acquisitions and strategic partnerships, helping to strengthen the Company’s financial flexibility and deliver historic results. Dean continues to serve as a trustee of CT Reit, a publicly listed (TSX) real estate investment trust established in 2013 as well as a Director of Canadian Tire Bank an OSFI regulated Chartered Bank established July 1, 2003. In addition he serves on the Boards of Walker Industries, an extremely successful Niagara based business and Neighbourly Pharmacy a publicly listed retail company (TSX) that completed its initial public offering in mid-2021. Dean has three passions – sport, kids and his community. He has been a member of numerous charitable Boards over his career and currently serves on the Board of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Toronto and as Vice-Chair of the Audit and Risk Committee of Queen’s University. In 2015, he was named 2015 Canadian CFO of the Year by Financial Executives International Canada, PricewaterhouseCoopers and Robert Half. Appointed by the Board – current term to 2025.

Sheila A. Murray, BCom (Queen’s), LLB (Queen’s), of the Bar of Ontario, retired as President and General Counsel of CI Financial, Canada’s second largest independent mutual fund company, in 2018. In this role she provided strategic, securities regulatory and governance leadership for the company and its Board of Directors. Sheila joined CI in 2008 after a 25-year career at Blake, Cassel’s and Graydon LLP where she practiced securities law with an emphasis on mergers and acquisitions, corporate finance and corporate reorganizations. At Blakes she acted for both bidders and target companies in public merger and acquisition transactions, and for issuers as well as underwriters and agents in public offerings of debt and equity securities. She was involved in many cross-border financings and international take-overs. Sheila was a member of the Securities Advisory committee to the Ontario Securities Commission and was a member of the team of Blakes’ partners that advised the Canadian securities regulators on the reformulation of securities regulation and the creation of new rules and policies. Sheila was the Chair of Blakes’ Legal Personnel Committee and the Co-Chair of the Strategic Initiatives Committee. Appointed by the Board - term to 2026.

BScH '23 (���˴�Ƭ). Kana (She/Her/Hers) is a first year Master's student in Translational Medicine (TMED). Her research focuses on medulloblastoma, a malignant brain tumour that predominately affects children. Kana is committed to Equity, Diversity, Inclusion, Indigeneity, and Accessibility (EDIIA), and in formulating sustainable strategies for positive community impact. She developed a passion for governance and leadership through her previous involvement with various organizations, including the Arts and Science Undergraduate Society (ASUS) Student Council, Save The Mother's, and the Queen's Science Undergraduate Research Journal (QSURJ). Currently, she serves as the EDI Officer / SGPS Representative for the Translational Medicine Student Society and Council. Kana aspires to be a vocal advocate for unique student perspectives and concerns and looks forward to collaborating with her peers. Elected by the Graduate Students - current term to 2025.

A graduate from the University of Ottawa and the University of California (Davis) in Civil Engineering, Dr. Patry was Executive Director of the U15 (2017-2022), President and CEO of the Canada Foundation for Innovation (2010-2017), and President and Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ottawa (2001-2008). He is a Member of the Order of Canada, a recipient of the Order of Ontario, a Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Engineering, a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada and the recipient of several honorary degrees. Bettina is an experienced director and executive with 23+ years of financial, commercial and business development experience at the CFO level. Dr. Vicki Remenda, Head of Geological Sciences and Geological Engineering (GSGE) has served ���˴�Ƭ chairing and serving on numerous committees at all levels, and in two faculties. As Senator, she was part of writing team for the first Academic Plan (2011). She used her Chair in Teaching and Learning (2006-2009) to spearhead Inquiry@Queen’s, the longest running undergraduate research conference in Canada. As Associate Dean in Faculty of Arts & Science (2015-2017), Vicki held the Teaching and Learning and Cyclical Program Review portfolios. As department head since 2017, Vicki has undertaken significant fundraising, hired seven new faculty members and is director of the innovative, on-line professional masters program, Masters of Earth and Engineering Resources Leadership. From the University of Western Australia, B.A. (Sports Administration) from the University of Canberra, Colette spent the first fifteen years of her career working in national and international basketball. Since moving to Canada she changed careers and has been working for the School of Graduate Studies and Postdoctoral Affairs since 2007. Her role as Manager, Graduate Experience has given her the opportunity to collaborate with many central services, departments and Faculties. She is currently on several working groups, such as the Committee for International Student Success, Indigenous Student Access and Support, the Food Insecurity working group, Digital Analytics and Website Development groups, the Senate Committee for Scholarships and Student Aid and the Mental Health Working Group. Patrice is Senior Managing Director, General Counsel & Corporate Secretary at CPP Investments, where she serves on the senior management team and leads the global legal, compliance and corporate secretarial functions and provides oversight to the internal assurance and advisory function. She is a seasoned business lawyer and trusted advisor with deep experience in transactions, regulation, corporate governance and providing strategic counsel. Patrice was named one of Canada’s Top 100 Most Powerful Women by WXN in 2019 and was recognized by Chambers & Partners as one of the most influential General Counsel in Canada. In 2022, Patrice received a “Legend in Law Award” by the US-based Burton Award Program recognizing her outstanding reputation in the legal profession and a demonstrated track record of addressing complex matters of national or global significance. Patrice is currently a member of the Advisory Council to the Dean of Queen’s University Law School and sits on the Board of Directors for the CDL Rapid Screening Consortium. A graduate of the John F. Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University, and fellow at the Harvard Law School, He is the Vice President of Indigenous Relations at the Nuclear Waste Management Organization. He was an Adjunct Professor and Distinguished Fellow at Queens University in the School of Policy Studies. Previously, he was Chief of Staff and Chief Executive Officer for the Assembly of First Nations and Interim Executive Director of the Canada’s Truth and Reconciliation Commission. Bob was awarded the Indspire award for Public Service and recently received an honorary Doctor of Laws from MacMaster University. Bob is well known for his commitment to reconciliation and Indigenous knowledge. Robert is of Mohawk and Ojibway ancestry and resides at Six Nations Reserve. Appointed by the Board - current term to 2027.
