Hannah Darvin just returned from a short research trip to New Haven, having received a 2024 Ferenc Gyorgyey/Stanley Simbonis YSM鈥57 Research Travel Grant to work at the Harvey Cushing/John Hay Whitney Medical Library at Yale.

Friday October 4, 2024This year鈥檚 McDonald Stewart Lecture on the Art of Venice, organized by the Department of Art History and Art Conservation, is titled 鈥淭he Life and Times of the Canada Pavilion in Venice,鈥 presented by Jos茅e Drouin-Brisebois, the Producer and Senior Manager of National Outreach at the . We warmly invite and encourage everyone to attend. The evening will begin with a reception at 5:30 PM in the Isabel Bader Centre for the Performing Arts, followed by the lecture and discussion from 6:00 to 7:30 PM in the Isabel鈥檚 Screening Room.
The , the world鈥檚 premier international exhibition of contemporary art, boasts a rich history that dates back to the late nineteenth century. The Canada Pavilion, designed in 1957 by Milan鈥檚 Studio BBPR, is a significant example of Italian modernism and holds a special heritage designation. Justina Hoi-Nam Yu graduated with distinction from OCAD University with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Drawing & Painting, and a minor in Art History in 2022. She completed chemistry courses at Toronto Metropolitan University and Queen鈥檚 University while working as an Archivist for Toronto Artist JJ Lee. Justina鈥檚 role as an archivist allowed her to polish skills in technical photography, database creation and organization, condition assessment, and communication with other key players in Lee鈥檚 exhibition, 鈥淚n My Yesterday.鈥 Justina鈥檚 main interests in conservation include modern methods of conserving ancient East Asian art, treatment of contemporary mixed-media paintings, and finish work such as in-painting strategies. Outside of Art Conservation, Justina is a 5th Degree Taekwondo Master , former Team Canada athlete, and coach at the Royal Military College of Canada (RMC).
