The faculty members of the Department of Languages, Literatures and Cultures take as their goal to provide students with the academic skills that are fundamental to the inquiry-based learning process.
Students become familiar with the region鈥檚 literary, artistic and cultural history of speakers of Arabic, Chinese, German, Hebrew, Italian, Inuktitut, Japanese, Mohawk, Portuguese, and Spanish, as well as questions surrounding language itself. Students learn to analyze and think critically, communicate and debate, interpret and judge independently.
A degree focusing on languages, literatures and cultures, or on linguistics provides students with valuable transferable skills that are increasingly important in our global world and provides them with the knowledge and skills for further study, employment, and community involvement.
