We understand that adjusting to a new residence community or living with roommates can sometimes be challenging. If you encounter any difficulties, please first reach out to your Don. They will assist you and, if needed, help you set up a meeting with your Residence Life Coordinator for further support.
After you move into your residence, we allow some time for everyone to settle in and get to know their new environment. Often, the initial stress of moving to campus, Orientation Week, building new connections, and starting classes subsides by the end of the second week. At this point, many students find that their concerns about room or building transfers have resolved themselves. However, if you still feel that your current location is not suitable for you, please contact us for further assistance.
Initiating a room change
Room changes can only be granted when and where vacancies exist within our residences. To initiate a room change, you must complete a Room Change Request Form on the  outlining why you feel a room change is necessary and detailing what efforts you have made to address and resolve issues.

The room change process will open on September 9th, 2024.
Information about requesting a room change
- Room changes are not guaranteed.
- We typically have a high occupancy rate. As a result, it can take several weeks or longer for a room change to take place. In some cases, a room change will not be possible.
- Room offers prioritize specific needs or issues over preferences, and are based on room availability at the time of offer. If we have offered a suitable room and you decline, your name will be moved to the bottom of the list until all other waiting students have received a room offer.
- Room changes are based on the merit and need of the request and not the date of submission. The more information you can provide, the better able we are to assess your request.
- Single Plus rooms are the most sought after and we typically have the least available inventory of Single Plus rooms available.
- The more open you are to different room types the more likely that your room change request will be able to be processed more quickly.
- The information in your Room Change Request Form is shared with Residence Admissions and the Residence Life Coordinator (RLC) for your building. Your RLC may schedule a meeting with you to discuss your request.
- If your request is for health reasons, submit the Residence Health Accommodation Form through the Student Residence and Dining portal. Do not submit the Room Change Request Form.
- Students who have previously submitted a health accommodation form and are waiting for a room that meets their approved accommodation to become available do not need to submit a room change form. You will be offered a room when one becomes available.
- If you move to a different room type, your residence fees will be adjusted accordingly on a prorated basis. In some cases (e.g., moving from a double room to a single) this will mean additional charges.
- Once a room change has been granted, you cannot opt to move back to your original assignment.
- A $26.25 administration and room cleaning fee may apply for your room change.
- We are not able to provide showings, or tours of offered rooms.
- If you have been offered a multi-occupancy room, we are not able to give you information regarding your new roommates or an opportunity to meet them, prior to your acceptance of the move, in order to maintain their privacy. 
Students in multi-occupancy rooms
Communication is key to a successful relationship between you and your roommate, but some topics may be hard to discuss.
Remember, as a roommate, you have responsibilities to:
- Maintain a clean-living area.
- Respect your roommate(s) and their belongings.
- Respectfully communicate face-to-face with your roommate.
- Take an active role in resolving conflicts, with or without the aid of Residence Staff.
- Allow your roommate to live and learn in your shared room free from undue interference (unreasonable noise or other distractions) that inhibit these activities.
- Allow your roommate to sleep without disturbance from noise, guests, or other disruptions.
- Allow your roommate free access to the room and shared facilities.
- Provide your roommate with privacy.
- Allow your roommate to be free from fear, intimidation, and physical and emotional harm.
- Ensure that your registered guests respect the privacy and rights of your roommate.
- Be private and discreet, especially with intimate relationships.
- Understand your rights and responsibilities as outlined in the Residence Contract.
If you are in a multi-occupancy room, before completing a room change request form, you will be expected to have:
- Completed a Roommate Agreement.
- Connected with your Don to discuss your concerns.
- Made an attempt to resolve the issue with the parties concerned. This means speaking with your current roommate(s) in an attempt to resolve issues through listening, understanding, and compromise.
- Students may request a mediated meeting facilitated by their Don.
