Our Living Learning Communities (LLC) are dynamic programs that integrate academic and social experiences for students living in residence. The goal is to foster a sense of community among students with similar academic or personal interests, providing an enriching space for collaborative learning and growth. Explore the unique opportunities our LLCs offer, and discover the unparalleled experience of residing in a community where shared passions create lasting connections.
Additionally, our Unique Communities offer a more open-ended approach, focusing on shared desires to live in a distinctive environment rather than specific programming, such as study-floors or pet-friendly environments. Learn more below.
The Active Living LLC is designed for students who strive to live healthy, well-balanced lifestyles. As a resident in this community, you will explore the various elements of holistic well-being and engage in activities throughout the year that promote healthy personal development. This interest-based LLC is open to all majors and faculties. This community is ideal if you look to eat well, get fit, and have fun!
The Creative Arts community is designed to unite and inspire first-year students from all disciplines who share a passion for the arts (fine art, music, drama, dance, theatre, and/or film). This LLC is ideal if you are interested in exploring innovation and creativity through hands-on experiential programming opportunities.
The Leadership LLC is designed to challenge, support, and empower its residents to take initiative and leave a positive impact at Queen’s – and far beyond. This interest-based LLC is open to all majors and faculties. This community is a good option if you would like to meet different campus leaders and develop your interest and ability to take on leadership in Residence and on campus.
The Women in STEM LLC is designed to build a robust community among women on campus who are pursuing a degree in Sciences, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics. While the Women in STEM LLC will be all women, this community will be in a mixed gender building.
Unique Communities
There is less specific programming for these floors. Instead, you share a desire to live in these environments. Click on each community to learn more.
Open to: all residence students from any faculty who agree to 22 hours of quiet on the floor. The study floor is an ideal community if you seek a quiet living environment while living in a residence atmosphere. Residents and their guests both agree to abide by the principles of this floor by maintaining low noise levels.
We will meet all requests to live in this community.
Open to: all residence students in any faculty who wish to live only with students who identify as a woman.
Open to: all residence students who are willing to make an affirmative commitment to maintaining a living environment free from alcohol, cannabis, and other drugs.  Led by your Residence Don, you will be asked to actively create a community agreement that outlines community expectations, norms, and desires. You may be interested in this community if you:
- Have made a conscious choice not to engage in substance use (alcohol, cannabis, or other drugs)
- Make this choice based on personal or family history with substance abuse or addiction, personal or faith-based convictions, or any other reason.
In this community, you will find less peer pressure to use substances and more support in choosing not to consume.
We will meet all requests to live in this community.
We are excited to offer a Pet-Friendly Community in Jean Royce Hall for the second year. You can apply to bring your approved pet(s) to residence as an opportunity to ease the transition into communal living, enhancing emotional, social and physical well-being, while living in a community with fellow pet owners and animal lovers. If you don’t have a pet but would like to live in a community with pets, you are also welcome to apply. Everyone who selects the Pet Friendly Community on their Residence Application will ONLY see these rooms during self-selection.
We are committed to providing a safe and well-maintained environment for all community members. Permitted pets include cats, fish, and small animals such as hamsters, guinea pigs, mice, rats, and rabbits. Additional guidelines will be sent to all students who select the Pet Friendly Community and details shared about the approval process. In general:
- Cats must be spayed or neutered, and have all vaccinations up to date (verified by a licensed veterinarian). Cats must be at least one year old, and must have lived with you for at least 6 months. Maximum one cat per student.
- Small caged animals must be in good health, and live in a secure cage when you are not present. Hamsters, guinea pigs, rats, mice, gerbils, and rabbits are permitted- maximum two per student.
