Employment Opportunities in Math & Stats

All graduate students are invited to apply for a Teaching Assistantship in the Department of Mathematics
and Statistics for the Fall and Winter terms of 2023/24. Teaching assistantships will be assigned Following
section 12.04 of PSAC Local 901 Collective Agreement.

The following link provides a list of all courses which may be assigned a graduate TA. (2024-25 courses requiring TAs (PDF))

Notes:

  • Courses with low final enrollments will not be assigned a TA. The cutoff is usually 15 students.
  • Some instructors may opt not to use a TA.
  • Instructors and enrollments are not final until September and January in the case of winter term courses.
  • TA duties are broken down into four categories: student contact (running tutorials/labs and proctoring); term marking (assignments and quizzes throughout the term); exam marking (mid-year and final exams at the end of term and after classes are over); and administrative support (preparing solutions, answering student emails; posting solutions, etc.) Not all courses will require all categories of work.

Students who may be registered in a graduate program in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics
in the 2024-25 academic year, regardless of their group as noted in section 12.04 of the collective
agreement, will be emailed a link to a survey in which to indicate their teaching assistantship preferences.

External candidates should submit a curriculum vitae, transcripts, details on relevant experience as well
as any other relevant materials the candidate wishes to submit for consideration (i.e. a teaching dossier
or student evaluations, etc.) along with their course preferences, to Dr. Ping Li (pingli@queensu.ca).

The deadline to apply is Wednesday, July 17, 2024. Review of completed applications will begin after this
date and continue until all positions are filled. The final appointments are subject to budgetary approval
and regular staffing. Additional information about the Department of Mathematics and Statistics can be
