A Centre workshop discussing the uses of IT to teach civic education November 19 and 20, 2010. The workshop heard presentations from the developers of two IT initiatives in participatory learning. One, Pillars of Freedom is a multi-platform production made up of a series of animated television episodes and a website with online games that show the importance of taking part in the democratic process through voting and making choices. It is designed for early learning in primary school. The other, The History Game Canada is a computer game designed as a classroom tool for high school students. The History Game Canada uses sophisticated computer gaming techniques to give students a sense of early life in Canada while understanding that choices have consequences.
