Part of being in a caring community is understanding that people are encouraged to reach out when they see someone having difficulties. The success of students is all of our responsibility and we encourage our community members to be responsive to students' needs and struggles. Students are not able to “opt out” but students can always choose what resources they access, who they connect with, and/or the extent of their engagement.

Once a Care referral has been received, the Intake Coordinator will review the information provided, and gather additional information where available. The severity and nature of a student concern will determine whether that concern will be identified for response.
If it’s determined that a student may need assistance, the Intake Coordinator will refer the matter to a member of the Care network who will reach out to them. They will discuss the concern with the student and offer to connect them with relevant resources and supports. Complex cases will be elevated to the Assessment and Care Team.
If you have questions or would like a follow up with a referral please connect with the Intake Coordinator at caresupportservices@queensu.ca. Keep in mind that the degree of information that will be shared with you will vary depending on the circumstances.
You will be required to enter your name as the referrer. In order to respond in the most effective manner possible the Intake Coordinator may need to consult with the referral submitter. If you have concerns about the student knowing you submitted the referral, please let us know.
Every effort is made to make the process private and respectful of the personal information that may be involved. We operate with a high degree of privacy and our work is guided by FIPPA regulations, including our process for record keeping and record retention.
No. Care is not disciplinary. A case manager would like to hear about any issues you may be facing and offer supports.
At this time, only faculty and staff can make Care referrals. Broader access to Care will be considered in the future.
