The first Queen’s Observatory was established in 1855! This group offers monthly events to the public and school tours.
Science Rendezvous Kingston
The Department has been a long-standing member of Science Rendezvous in Kingston. We typically have a handful of interactive tables inside and an outdoor station including over 30 volunteers!

Established in 2019, IDEAS (Innovation, Diversity, Exploration & Advancement in STEM) has offered free summer camp to youth aged 11-13 to explore hands-on activities related to astronomy and physics.

is Canada’s largest STEM outreach organization. The organization at Queen’s University has over 140 volunteers from many educational backgrounds. They offer visits and teacher partnerships.
Total Solar Eclipse 2024
In 2024, Queen’s University distributed 130,000 pairs of certified eclipse glasses to the local community. The Department kept our community safe by providing education and hosting events to thousands.
