Positive Space sticker

The Positive Space sticker has been updated to include aspects of the Progress Pride Flag.

The Positive Space program has been working since 1999 to help make the 2SLGBTQIA+ community at Queen鈥檚 feel at home on campus by educating faculty, staff, and students about how to support a safe and affirming environment for people of all gender identities and sexual orientations. To mark the 25th anniversary of the program, the Human Rights and Equity Office (HREO) has relaunched the program with updates to the Part 1 training module. The program has also launched a new Positive Space sticker that is granted to those who complete the program. The sticker can be displayed in work, living, or study areas to signal that those in the space are committed to creating a safer and more affirming environment for 2SLGBTQIA+ faculty, staff, students, and guests.

鈥淭he Positive Space program has been updated over the years to make sure it reflects current understandings of gender and sexual diversity, but the 25th anniversary was the perfect time to make some substantial changes that help ensure the program is as inclusive as it needs to be,鈥 says Emma McCallum, I-EDIAA Education and Learning Coordinator, HREO. 鈥淭he language and resources in our training module is now up to date and more broadly inclusive. And, most visibly, the logo displayed on the stickers has been changed for the first time to display the Progress Pride Flag, which highlights intersectionality, giving particular focus to Black, Brown, transgender and intersex members of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community.鈥

Training for the Positive Space program is divided between an online module participants can complete at their own pace and an in-person or virtual session facilitated by a member of the HREO team. All students, staff, and faculty are invited to complete the training and receive the new Positive Space sticker. Those who have completed the training in the past will need to take the relaunched program to receive the new sticker.
