Despite best efforts, negotiations between Queen鈥檚 University and the Public Service Alliance of Canada (PSAC) and its Local 901, have not resulted in a tentative agreement to renew the PSAC Unit 1 Collective Agreement, and the union has elected to strike.
PSAC 901 represents approximately 2,000 graduate students who are employed part-time as Graduate Teaching Assistants, Teaching Fellows, Graduate Research Assistants, and JD/MD-enrolled students employed as Teaching Assistants at Queen鈥檚. The strike deadline was passed on Monday March 10, at 12:01 a.m. without a tentative agreement.
The university has contingency plans in place and has implemented continuity measures to ensure the university remains open and classes and other academic activities continue. All students can continue their studies, including attending classes. Anyone travelling to campus should give themselves extra time in case of delays due to potential picket lines.
Queen鈥檚 values the contributions of its employees and respects the collective bargaining process. The University remains committed to working with PSAC and its Local 901 to reach an agreement that both parties can ratify.

The university also informed the Queen鈥檚 community over the weekend that it and the United Steelworkers (USW) and its Local 2010, which represents about 1,200 general support staff working at the university, have reached a tentative agreement to renew their Collective Agreement.
