The Vice-Principal Research (VPR) is launching a university-wide call for proposals to enhance and expand high-quality research training environments at Queen’s through doctoral trainee support.
With funding from the Bruce Mitchell Research Program (BMRP) – part of the $30 million gift offered earlier this year by alumnus Bruce Mitchell, Sc’68, DSc'20 – the program will support a minimum of 50 doctoral trainees, by providing the selected faculty members with $35,000 per year per student for a four-year term for each new doctoral trainee. Applications are due December 15, 2023.
Queen’s full-time faculty (tenure track, tenured, clinicians with protected research time) can submit applications to expand doctoral trainee enrolment in their research groups beyond the traditional complement. Researchers are also allowed to submit requests to support up to three doctoral trainees newly recruited to Queen’s. This competition represents an opportunity to engage in novel multi-disciplinary research projects and encourages proposals coming from groups of faculty members working together with co-supervisory arrangements.
Applications will be reviewed by a committee of representatives from the Vice-Principal (Research) portfolio, the School of Graduate Studies and Postdoctoral Affairs and the Vice-Principal (Culture, Equity, and Inclusion) portfolio, as well as faculty members with extensive experience in research and graduate trainee supervision. Applicants will be notified of the committee’s decisions by end of January 2024. All doctoral trainees must be recruited and actively enrolled by September 2025.
VPR is hosting an online information session for interested faculty on November 6, 2:00-2:45 pm. Access the VPR website for session details and registration.
