Indigenization - Equity, Diversity, Inclusion, Anti-Racism, and Accessibility

Hospitality Services is part of Housing and Ancillary Services. Together, we embrace diversity and empower all community members to thrive. We welcome and support students, faculty, and staff from all cultures and backgrounds. We are committed to creating and supporting communities where equity, diversity, inclusion, and Indigeneity are embraced and celebrated.

We acknowledge that identity is multi-dimensional, understand privilege as dynamic and situated, and recognize that we have work to do in this area. We are actively working to eliminate discrimination, injustice, and violence; and engage our communities in dialogue and action.

Hospitality Services is committed to creating an inclusive and welcoming environment for everyone through our cultural events, educational opportunities, and campus community involvement.

Consultative Process

In recognition of different cultural traditions and religious observances, Hospitality Services meets regularly with Residence Life and Services and representative(s) from the Residence Society to plan menu offerings and dietary supports throughout the academic year. AMS ratified student clubs are invited to participate in menu tastings to share valuable consultative feedback for special dining features and accommodation supports through religious/cultural observances. Students are provided with an honorarium in recognition of their time and support.

Hospitality Services provides cultural food supports and celebrations around significant periods, including but not limited to: Holi, Lunar New Year, Black Histories and Futures Month, Passover, Diwali, Rosh Hashanah, and Yom Kippur.

If you are part of a student club that would like to connect with Hospitality Services please email dietitian@queensu.ca.

March of Dimes

Queen’s Hospitality Services is honoured to be recognized by the March of Dimes for their equitable and inclusive hiring practices. We have partnered with the March of Dimes for more than 10 years, participating in initiatives such as Dolphin Mentoring Day where organizational leaders partner with a motivated job seeker with a disability for a full- or half-day of job shadowing. Through these programs we have successfully onboarded 10 employees, several of whom are long-term employees. We strongly believe that diversity and inclusive hiring has strengthened our campus team, promoting a broader respect for different backgrounds and perspectives.
