First-Year Students 鈥 May 21 to June 9 is the Plan Selection period when you will choose your area of study, or degree plan, which will determine many of the courses that you鈥檒l take in your remaining years of study.
All Arts and Science students who have successfully completed 24.0 units or more must participate in the Plan Selection process. (The exceptions to this requirement are students currently in the Bachelor of Music degree or the Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology degree, who only need to participate in Plan Selection if they wish to add an optional Minor to their existing Specialization.)
Plan Selection is a crucial step of your degree progress! Students who have completed 24.0 units or more and do not participate in Plan Selection run the risk of not getting into the plan of their choice, and it is not a guarantee that they will be able to change to that preferred plan in future years. Additionally, any students who are not in a viable plan by the course registration period in late July will not be able to register in any courses for the upcoming academic year.
Any Arts and Science students who did not yet successfully complete 24.0 units by the end of the Winter term, but who are eligible for the plan(s) of their choice based on their cumulative GPA and the units they did complete, are strongly encouraged to participate in Plan Selection as well.
Plan Selection will take place in two stages:
- Stage 1 will run from May 21 to 27 for students requesting Specialization plans only.
- Stage 2 will run from June 2 to 9 for students requesting Majors and Minors.
Students who want to combine a Specialization with a Minor will participate in both Stage 1 and Stage 2.
