Why pursue an internship?

Eligibility

To register for QUIP, students must meet all of the following requirements (to be verified by your department)

Domestic or international student
Enrolled in the Bachelor of Arts (Honours) or Bachelor of Science (Honours) programs
2nd or 3rd year of studies
Minimum GPA of 1.9
Will be returning to Queen’s to complete degree requirements after the internship

How to register?

Registering for QUIP is easy:

Send the FAS to your department or Undergraduate Programs Assistant to request your Undergraduate Chair’s approval to register for QUIP
When you receive the approval from your department, log in to and from the left bar select “QUIP” and “QUIP Registration & Records”. From the top right of the screen, click “Apply to a Program”, search for your program and click “Apply”. Note: COCA students must apply to FAS: Faculty of Arts and Science.
Complete all the information, upload the email with the approval from your department and click “Submit Application”

Registration in QUIP is ongoing. We recommend registering as early as possible to maximize the time available for attending workshops, one-on-one advising appointments, and exploring internship opportunities.

Courses

Once you have been successful in securing an internship, you will be enrolled in the relevant INTN courses required for a 12-16-month internship (course fees apply). The internship itself consists of three or four courses – one for each term the student is employed – for a total of 6.0 units.

Note: INTN 301/1.5-INTN 305/1.5 may not be used to satisfy the elective or Plan requirements of any degree program in Arts and Science (120.0 units). They may only be used to satisfy the requirements of the internship Plan, which requires students to complete the 6.0 units of INTN courses in addition to the 120.0 units required for the degree, for a total of 126.0 units.

Entrepreneurial Stream

Have an idea for a venture you want to develop? Our Entrepreneurial Stream might be for you!

Participating in the QUIP Entrepreneurial Stream will allow you to pursue an entrepreneurial endeavour for 12-16 months, while earning internship credits that lead to the ‘with Professional Internship’ designation upon graduation.

Students may take up the Entrepreneurial Stream of QUIP through the following pathways:

ASCX 200 and ASCX 300: To participate, students need to enrol in ASCX 200/300, as well as be registered in the relevant INTN courses required for a 12-16 month internship.
Queen’s Innovation Centre Summer Initiative (QICSI)/QyourVenture (QyV): students need to apply to take part in the DDQIC 2-week intensive boot camp, and be registered in the relevant INTN courses required for a 12-16 month internship.

These opportunities provide structure, community, and support during the internship year. Fees are due for any course enrolments required for the selected QUIP stream.
