Exploring the world and making new friends
The Faculty of Arts and Science has launched a new day camp opportunity for children aged 5 to 12. MiniQ Camp, led by Julia Brook (Director, DAN School of Drama and Music), will consolidate several of the camps previously offered by several FAS departments.
In addition to Dr. Brook, the MiniQ Camp committee includes Alicia Kupinski (Undergraduate Assistant, Film and Media, Scott MacKenzie (Department of Film and Media), Troy Day (Department of Mathematics and Statistics), Rob Knobel (Department of Physics, Engineering Physics & Astronomy), Melissa Lafreni猫re (Department of Geography and Planning), and KP Anand (Advancement).
鈥淭ogether, our committee has expertise across the arts and sciences as well as in education and camps delivery,鈥 says Dr. Brook. 鈥淲e鈥檙e working together to create week of inspiring and engaging activities for campers.鈥
MiniQ Campers will explore, create, and learn about the world around them through games, projects, and activities in a safe, welcoming environment through hands-on Arts and Science activities. At the end of each week, the camp culminates with a Graduation Showcase.
Campers aged 5-6 will explore the world through a variety of activities each week. Campers aged 7-12 will engage in a variety of arts and science activities each morning. Then, campers will select a 'Major' in Arts, Science, or Outdoors that they will explore during the afternoon sessions.
鈥淭he world is interconnected, and we want campers to be imaginative and creative through a variety of arts and science activities,鈥 says Dr. Brook. 鈥淲e鈥檙e excited about the possibilities that these themes afford.鈥
The weekly themes include:
Carnival of Creations, Codebreakers, and Clues - A week of hands-on activities where campers will hunt for clues, crack codes, and make models and other mysterious objects. (June 30 - July 4, August 5 鈥 8)
Tales and Tails: Imagining, Creating, and Discovering - Explore the world of real and imaginary creatures through stories, art, and discovery projects. (July 7 鈥 11, July 28 - August 1)
What in the World: Once Upon a Time in Nature - Spend the week exploring the world around you and imaging new ones. You will embark on outdoor explorations, and blend stories with hands-on activities inspired by nature. (July 14 鈥 18, August 11 鈥 15)
Heroic Journeys: Legends, Science, and Everyday Triumphs - Campers will explore stories of courage, outstanding achievements, and noble qualities through games, stories, and other hands-on activities to highlight the heroes around you. (July 21 鈥 25, August 18 鈥 22)
