I am interested in 18-19th century Latin American intellectual history, specifically the history of history and the history of knowledge in Latin America. My doctoral thesis, entitled 鈥淗istory, Historicity, and the Limits of Universal Knowledge in Nineteenth-Century Spanish America鈥 asks how and why the philosophy, theory, and language of history as conceptualized by Europe were transformed in Spanish America to allow for the inclusion of local understandings of progress, modernity, and civilization. I am also interested in questions of knowledge production, circulation, and translation, as well as the history of ideas and concepts.
