Student in HIST 223: Toxins in Global History Creates Children's Book to Explore Famous Poisoning Case

Dr. Aditi Sen's HIST 223: Poison and Prejudice: Toxins in Global History examines how toxins have played an important role in health, forensic research, standards of beauty, and intercultural associations. In Winter 2023, students in the course were asked to create a presentation for children on the history of poisons.

We are pleased to highlight one of these creative projects by student Tanjot Shergill, who created a children's book titled "The Poisoning of Georgi Markov." Through this creative presentation, we learn that Markov, a Bulgarian writer, was murdered in 1978 by being jabbed in the leg with an umbrella containing a Ricin bullet on its tip. Tanjot includes details on the incident and the poison itself, but presents this information using a bright colour scheme and replaces key players with cats to engage her target audience.

Well done, Tanjot!
