We are all likely aware of the horrific events that took place at Western University earlier this month where first-year students were drugged and raped. Today I learned that AMS is organizing a walk out in solidarity with those students and their community.

On Monday, September 27th at 12 pm, we are asking all students to walk out of class or work and meet at Summerhill for a rally in solidarity with Western against gender-based and sexual violence.

We call on Queen's students to wear teal or purple to support survivors of sexual violence at Western, Queen's, and universities across Ontario.

Gender-based and sexual violence continue to be prevalent issues on university campuses and are direct products of harmful, misogynistic, and oppressive campus cultures. We invite students to make signs, bring masks, and come support safer university campuses.

If you're interested in speaking at this event, or have any questions or concerns, please contact Samara Lijiam, the social issues commissioner, at sic@ams.queensu.ca.

Please note - this is a stationary event and all attendees are expected to follow COVID-19 restrictions and regulations. Please wear a mask, social distance whenever possible, and sanitize regularly.
