On April 8, 2024, Kingston is set to witness a rare total solar eclipse, drawing thousands of eager spectators to witness this extraordinary cosmic phenomenon. The city is in the path of totality, making it one of the prime viewing locations in Canada.

The Department of Physics, Engineering Physics, and Astronomy is at the forefront of community outreach, aiming to provide education, generate excitement, and detail safety measures for all those who wish to be part of this once-in-a-lifetime event. The department is actively seeking enthusiastic and community-driven individuals from the Queen’s community to become Eclipse Ambassadors. Whether you’re a seasoned stargazer, enjoy engaging with the public, or are simply passionate about sharing science with others, individuals from all backgrounds and experiences are invited to join this effort.

Become an eclipse ambassador

Volunteers will assist in organizing and participating in educational outreach events leading up to the eclipse. They will also provide event support to viewing sites on the day to ensure a smooth and enjoyable experience for all spectators. 

Training and resources will be provided to prepare volunteers for outreach activities, including sharing information about the eclipse, distributing safety materials, event logistics, and answering public questions. Volunteers will also have access to resources and materials to enhance their outreach efforts.
