External Award Opportunities
CGS-D PhD Programs (NSERC-D, SSHRC-D, and CIHR-D)
Please note that these three scholarships are part of a harmonized application process. DEADLINE is mid-October.
DEADLINE to apply for the Vanier is early October.
The OGS awards are allocated by the School of Graduate Studies to each unit. Typically our School receives two or three OGS awards to disburse. In some years we may receive additional funding, in other years we may not get a single award.

Internal Awards Opportunities
This suite of awards is adjudicated early in the Spring/Summer term and includes the following:
- Robert Sutherland Fellowships
- International OGS
- Numerous Other Named Fellowships
This award is reserved for incoming (new) graduate students in either the MES or PhD program. It is evaluated on the basis of GPA, referee appraisals, prior accomplishments/awards, and need. Typically we are allocated two GETAs by the School of Graduate Studies and all base-funded incoming grads are considered in the rankings by our Graduate Program Committee. Ranking occurs during the Spring/Summer term and the awards are disbursed in the subsequent Fall term.
Typically we are allocated two McLaughlins by the School of Graduate Studies. All base-funded grads are considered in the rankings by our Graduate Program Committee. Rankings are normally reserved for graduate students who have applied for other external and/or internal awards. Ranking occurs during the Spring/Summer term and the awards are disbursed in the subsequent Fall and Winter terms.
