Interim Vice-Provost & Dean of Student Affairs

Corinna FitzgeraldCorinna is Interim Vice-Provost, Student Affairs, and has worked in Student Affairs at post-secondary institutions in Canada for more than 25 years. She came to Queen’s in 2016 after serving as Director, Student Life Programs at Humber College, and Director, Student Life at St. Francis Xavier University in Nova Scotia.  

Over her time at Queen’s to date, Corinna has helped establish the Yellow House Student Centre for Equity and Inclusion; she created and leads the Equity, Inclusion and Belonging portfolio in Student Affairs; she coordinated a comprehensive the review of the university’s Sexual Violence Policy; she co-led the implementation of a Student Campus Climate Survey that evolved into The Shift Project, and she chaired the Provost’s Food Insecurity Working Group (2019) that wrote a report with recommendations, resulting in the ongoing Food Insecurity Advisory Committee that guides ongoing work to support an increasing number of food insecure students at Queen’s.  

Originally from Newfoundland, Corinna began her career at Memorial University, and moved to Ontario to work at McMaster University, starting in Residence Life, and then establishing the Judicial Affairs Office (one of the first in Canada) responsible for all student conduct and community standards. She has extensive experience supervising a broad range of services and implementing many programs and supports to benefit students. Her significant work as a practitioner is grounded in a theoretical background in student development. She has a Master of Education in Post-Secondary Studies from Memorial and a Master of Arts degree in Labour Studies from McMaster. Corinna has been active in regional, provincial and national PSE Student Services organizations, and was a part of a team that developed the first competency framework for Student Affairs Professionals for the Canadian Association of College and University Student Services (CACUSS).
