The School of Religion, Queen鈥檚 University, is delighted to announce the appointment of Dr. Amarnath Amarasingam as Assistant Professor in Religion and Social Justice.
Dr. Amarasingam has a PhD in Religious Studies from Wilfrid Laurier University/University of Waterloo. He works in areas of sociology of religion, terrorism studies, diaspora politics, and religion and social movements. Most recently he has been a Postdoctoral Fellow in the Department of Sociology at the University of Waterloo and Senior Research Fellow at the Institute for Strategic Dialogue in London, UK where his research has focused, among other areas, on the radicalization of foreign fighters, securitization, and immigrant youth identity. His book, Pain, Pride and Politics: Social Movement Activism and the Sri Lankan Tamil Diaspora in Canada, was published by University of Georgia Press in 2015. He has also edited three books, including Religion and the New Atheism: A Critical Appraisal, Brill 2010, and published numerous scholarly and popular articles.
