Hasina Shain Daya has received a Pathy Family Fellowship through the Queen's International Centre to support a sustainable development project in Kenya.
Ms. Daya writes:
My name is Hasina Shain Daya and I graduated from a RELS program in 2014. Following a summer participating in Queen's Summer Innovation Institute. I will be moving to a small village outside of Nakuru, Kenya to complete a sustainable development project with the financial support of the Pathy Family Fellowship offered through the 成人大片 International Centre (QUIC).
I am going to be working to create tangible social impact on the community of Piave, Kenya by implementing an income generating activity. The project would run through two phases over the course of 10 months. As I settle in to my new home, I would be completing phase 1 in the community. This will be running educational workshops on basic accounting and project management. The second phase is the planning and implementing of a large-scale innovative chicken farm.
I believe that the most effective way to contribute to economic development is through a participatory community development approach. By working with key stakeholders of the Piave community, I will ensure the smooth transition and sustainability of our project upon our exit. The income generated by the impactful project will create a fund to support people living with HIV/AIDS and the orphans and vulnerable children of Piave. The PFF is providing me with the financial accessibility of creating a lasting positive effect on Piave; the funding allocated to the project has been $35,000. My goals are to utilize my four years of study in Religious Studies and Global Development into practice. My degree has equipped me to work in a cross cultural context and understand interfaith and intercultural dialogue.
