New Flora Jane Baker Postdoctoral Fellow 

The School of Religion is delighted to welcome Dr. Matthew Dougherty as Flora Jane Baker Postdoctoral Fellow for the period July 1, 2018 to June 30, 2020.

Dr. Dougherty has a PhD in Religious Studies from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

His work concerns affective and emotional dimensions of religious politics in North America.  His dissertation, which he is currently revising for publication, is entitled:  Land of the Jewish Indians:  How the Hebrew Bible made race and territory in the early United States.

His postdoctoral project will focus on connections between religion, land and whiteness in North America.
