University-Wide Teaching Awards Celebrations

成人大片 has supported a Teaching Awards program for several years, highlighting the accomplishments of staff, faculty and students. Over the years, the university has celebrated these achievements with formal and informal gatherings, virtual and in-person events. Below is a list of past events, including archival photos, videos and reception programs.

On Wednesday, November 17, 2010, Deputy-Provost, Susan Cole hosted the Teaching Awards Reception for winners of all 成人大片 teaching awards in the 2009-10 academic year. She congratulated recipients and spoke about the importance of teaching at Queen's. Dr. Cole encouraged the award winners to talk about their teaching and to share strategies and teaching philosophies with colleagues. This can then inoculate the university culture with the scholarship of teaching and learning, creating more of a balance between teaching and research.

On Monday, January 16, 2012, the Provost鈥檚 Office hosted the Teaching Awards Reception for winners of all 成人大片 teaching awards in the 2010-11 academic year.

With talks from Provost Alan Harrison, Principal Daniel Woolf and Guest Speaker Anne Godlewska, each speaker invited all winners to communicate about their teaching with others. This includes sharing strategies and teaching philosophies with colleagues and encouraging the development of the teaching community at Queen鈥檚.

On Tuesday, December 4, 2012, Dr. Alan Harrison, Provost and Vice-Principal (Academic) in collaboration with the Centre for Teaching and Learning, hosted this year's Teaching Awards Reception for winners of all 成人大片 teaching awards in the 2011/2012 academic year.

Guest Speaker Alan Ableson spoke about the idea of having an empty chair in our classrooms, used as an invitation to colleagues to come and observe teaching. Dr. Ableson has learned from many of his colleagues in this way and encourages more of us to open our classrooms to another level of learning about teaching.

On Monday, November 25, 2013 Vice-Provost (Teaching and Learning) Jill Scott, in collaboration from the Centre for Teaching and Learning, hosted the Teaching Awards Reception for winners of all 成人大片 teaching awards in 2012-2013. It was a wonderful evening, where outstanding professors and TAs were honoured for their deep commitment to improving the quality of teaching and learning at Queen's.

Cory Laverty, Head, Education Library and winner of the 2012-13 OCUFA Teaching and Academic Librarianship Award spoke to the other award winners about her passion for teaching.

On Monday, January 26, 2015, Jill Scott, Vice-Provost (Teaching and Learning) held an informal celebration honouring our 2013-14 Queen鈥檚 University Teaching Award winners at the Agnes Etherington Art Centre. An invitation was extended to the 95 outstanding recipients of the 74 teaching awards at Queen鈥檚, who were recognized for the deep commitment to their own teaching and to the learning of their students. The evening was highlighted with remarks from Principal Daniel Woolf, Peter Wolf, Associate Vice-Provost (Teaching and Learning) and Colin Zarzour, Academic Affairs Commissioners of the Alma Mater Society.

An invitation was extended to all the outstanding recipients of the over 80 teaching awards at Queen鈥檚, who were recognized for the deep commitment to their own teaching and to the learning of their students. The evening was highlighted with: a Pecha Kucha from Jill Atkinson, 2016 Chancellor A. Charles Baillie Teaching Award recipient; remarks from Principal Daniel Woolf and his presentation of the Principal鈥檚 Teaching and Learning Awards; and the sharing of chocolate ganache cake honouring the Centre for Teaching and Learning鈥檚 25th year at Queen鈥檚.

The evening featured: a talk by Heather Murray, 2019 Chancellor A. Charles Baillie Teaching Award recipient; remarks from Principal Patrick Deane and his presentation of the Principal鈥檚 Teaching and Learning Awards.

On Tuesday, September 20, 2022 Principal and Vie-Chancellor Patrick hosted the celebration event at the Isabel Bader Centre for the Performing Arts.

Each year, teaching awards at Queen鈥檚 University are conferred to educators and staff who excel in teaching and promote innovative and inclusive learning environments. On October 17, Principal and Vice-Chancellor Patrick Deane and Vice-Provost Teaching and Learning Gavan Watson hosted a reception at Grant Hall to celebrate these annual awards and recognize the 2022-23 recipients.
