Operational Priorities Working Groups

To assist with developing an operational plan to implement the new Queen鈥檚 Strategy, six working groups, each championed by a faculty member and comprised of additional faculty, staff, and students was tasked with developing two or three draft operational priorities aligned with each of the six strategic goals set out in the Strategy. Over June and July 2021, these groups worked together and consulted with the Queen鈥檚 community to determine the most pressing operational needs and how they might be achieved to help Queen鈥檚 fulfill its vision and mission while being true to its values.

The working groups will deliver operational priorities to a steering committee comprised of the working group chairs, all faculty deans and senior leadership team members at the beginning of August 2021. The steering committee, chaired by the Principal, will then use these operational priorities to assist with the development of an operational plan.

Each working group consists of a Faculty Chair, Senate representative, student representative, staff representative, and four to six additional members representing current faculty, staff, and students with established expertise and experience in the strategic area. These groups have been designed to represent the Queen鈥檚 community and public consultation is part of the working group mandate so that all members of the community that wish to participate in this process can do so.

Working groups will come together for at least three structured meetings to develop their own operational priorities, with public feedback sought specifically but not limited to the time between the second and third meetings when draft operational priorities will be posted to ensure the community has opportunity to comment on the priorities before they are finalized and submitted to the steering committee in early August. These draft operational priorities may be implemented in part or in whole. They are meant to provide initial direction for the development of an operational plan.

Enhancing the interdependence of research and teaching, with emphasis on greater integration of research in the undergraduate experience, an increase in the ratio of graduate to undergraduate students, and a program to attract, support, and more effectively integrate postdoctoral fellows.
