As part of its ongoing partnership with C-Dem (the Consortium on Electoral Democracy), the IIGR co-sponsored the 2023-2024 Undergraduate Partnered Research Programme. This a year-long course saw ten students at Canadian universities undertake advanced study on democratic life and conduct a research project in collaboration with a partner organization.
Partners included provincial and territorial electoral management bodies, government agencies and civil society organizations.
Students in the 2023-2024 cohort were:
- Angelique Busanga (University of Ottawa)
- Ellie Hwang (RMC)
- George Legler (Nipissing University)
- Katherine Li (University of Calgary)
- Luis Armando Sanchez Diaz (University of Calgary)
- Marguerite Lefebvre (University of Ottawa)
- Matthew Howell (RMC)
- Rachel Moss (University of Ottawa)
- Richard Sun (RMC)
- Sonya Pallapothu (McGill University)
Five students will be presenting posters at the Canadian Vote Summit in Toronto in early June. Two students will be further presenting posters at the Canadian Political Science Association Annual Meeting in Montreal, with the financial support of the IIGR to attend this Canada-wide meeting of political scientists during the Congress of the Social Sciences and Humanities.
The programme was co-instructed by Dr. Holly Ann Garnett (IIGR Fellow, and Class of 1965 Professor of Leadership at RMC) and Mr. Valere Gaspard (PhD student, University of Ottawa).
Recruitment for 2024-2025 students and partner organizations is open.
