Congratulations to undergraduate student, Marie-Helene Lapointe, who has been awarded the WiE Undergraduate Summer Research Award for 2022.
Marie-Helene just completed her third year of studies in Geological Engineering and will be working in the Geophysics & Geodesy Research Group with Dr. Georgia Fotopoulos, and collaborators at the Canadian Geodetic Survey, Natural Resources Canada.
Her project focuses on the determination of gravity rates across Canada from FG5 measurements and GRACE/GRACE-FO missions. This research falls under an umbrella project focused on Geodesy and the UN Sustainability and Development Goals (SDGs). Determination of gravity rates and changes over the past few decades will help us to uncover inconsistencies in national datasets and models used to assess land subsidence and uplift. This closely relates to UN SDGs on climate action, life on land, industry, innovation & infrastructure and sustainable cities & communities.
