The Queen鈥檚 United Way campaign is now underway with a fundraising target of $425,000. These essential funds account for more than 10 per cent of the overall campaign total for the United Way of Kingston, Frontenac, Lennox and Addington.
The overall goal for this year鈥檚 campaign is $3,614,800.
Last year, in the face of the pandemic, the Queen鈥檚 community gave like never before raising a record-setting $455,356.
These funds helped the United Way as it assisted 79,967 members of the community through 70 agencies and 220 programs.
鈥淭he United Way plays a critical role in ensuring the health and well-being of our community by funding programs and services that benefit thousands of people right here in Kingston and the surrounding area,鈥 says Principal and Vice-Chancellor Patrick Deane, who is also a member of the Campaign Cabinet for the United Way KFL&A. 鈥淨ueen鈥檚 is an important partner in this work and I am pleased to support the United Way not only with my donation, but also with my time as a member of the Campaign Cabinet. I encourage everyone in the Queen鈥檚 community to contribute to United Way in any way they can because together, we can make a real difference in the lives of many.鈥
Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, the number one need for members of the KFL&A community has been food, with 1,600 meals served in our community every day and 3,300 hampers/baskets are being delivered every month including to low-income seniors, students and families.
鈥淚t has been amazing for the United Way to be a part of a community coming together to help each other,鈥 says Bhavana Varma, President and CEO of United Way KFL&A. 鈥淧eople have stepped forward to support the essential work being done by frontline agencies to support our family, friends, neighbours who are struggling in vulnerable situations.鈥
Queen鈥檚 staff, faculty and retirees are leaders in the community having the largest workplace and retiree campaign within the region.
