Thrive Week puts focus on positive mental health

Managing our mental health and well-being will be front and centre as Thrive Week returns Nov. 5-9.

One of the biggest events during Thrive Week is the 7th annual 'Invest in You' Health and Wellness Fair, being held in the Athletics and Recreation Centre on Wednesday, Nov. 7, from 11:30 am to 1:30 pm. (University Communications)

Queen鈥檚 Human Resources is offering a for the Queen鈥檚 community that will put the focus on the importance of mental health as well as self-care. It鈥檚 also about creating a positive mindset while also having some fun.

Organizers draw on a range of resources from both Queen鈥檚 and the Kingston communities to offer this special programming.

鈥淭hrive Week is about connecting with members of the Queen鈥檚 community and getting them to think more about the skills and resources they require to 鈥榯hrive鈥 throughout the year,鈥 says Sydney Downey, Return to Work Manager, Queen鈥檚 Human Resources. 鈥淭his is a great opportunity to participate in some interesting activities while also learning more about well-being and the importance of mental health.鈥

Thrive offers a variety of events each day that align with the Thrive pillars: nutrition, physical fitness, sleep, stress, and stigma. The goal of the week is to increase education and communication on the topic of positive mental health and what it means to the Queen鈥檚 community.

Some events that will be featured include:

  • Kick-off Event
  • The Science of Happiness
  • Art Journaling
  • Haunted Walk of Kingston
  • 鈥業nvest in You鈥 Health and Wellness Fair

At the kick-off event (Nov. 5, 8-10 am), free hot chocolate and apples will be handed out at the Mackintosh-Corry Hall dining are.
