As Queen’s prepares for the upcoming fall term, the health and safety of the Queen’s and Kingston communities remains the university’s top priority. Many first-year students will begin their Queen’s experience by moving into campus residences this week, and the university is well prepared.

For the second year in a row, the move-in period is spread over several days to ensure safety. This year, move-in will take place over four days, beginning on Sept. 1 and ending on Sept. 4. Students will receive their room keys at a central contact point at Richardson Stadium, before being directed to their individual residence building for unloading.

“We’re excited to start this academic year by welcoming many of our first-year students into residence,” says Ann Tierney, Vice-Provost and Dean of Student Affairs. “Last year we staggered move-in across several days, and we are adopting that model again this year, along with a range of other measures to safely welcome residence students to campus.”

Walk-in vaccine clinic during move-in

Although the overwhelming majority of residence students have indicated they are fully vaccinated, students who are not fully vaccinated, and their family members, can receive a dose of a COVID-19 vaccine at a conveniently located walk-in vaccine clinic at Richardson Stadium. The clinic will be held throughout the move-in period from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Mandatory vaccination and additional safety measures

Queen’s University is joining other universities and colleges in Ontario in implementing mandatory COVID-19 vaccination requirements for all individuals (students, staff, faculty, contractors, and visitors) participating in university activities in person, either on Queen’s campus or other Queen’s property.

Masks are required to be worn in residences at all times in line with the university’s mask policy, which requires masks while indoors on campus, including in classrooms, auditoriums, and other common public areas.

Before arriving on campus, all individuals participating in move-in must download the Queen’s SeQure App and complete a short COVID-19 self-assessment. This self-assessment and COVID screening on the SeQure app will be required for all individuals coming to campus every day and is part of our enhanced health and safety protocols.
