Queen’s remembers Professor Emeritus Annette Hayward

An expert in Québec literature, Dr. Hayward received the 2007 Governor General’s Literary Award in the French, non-fiction category.

The Queen’s community is remembering Annette Hayward, emeritus professor in the Department of French Studies, who died on May 12 at the age of 78.

Born in Grand Falls, NL, Dr. Hayward first arrived at Queen’s in 1973 and became a mainstay for the department and university for 36 years, until retiring in 2009.

After receiving her master’s degree at Dalhousie and at Université de Grenoble, she received her PhD from McGill on Québec literature.

A gifted teacher and researcher, Dr. Hayward won the 2007 Governor General’s Literary Award in the French, non-fiction category, for her book La querelle du régionalisme au Québec (1904-1931): Vers l’autonomisation de la littérature Québécoise. She also received several teaching awards throughout her career.

A Celebration of Life is being held on Saturday, May 18, at the James Reid Funeral Home Reception Centre, 1900 John Counter Blvd., Kingston from 1:30-3:30 p.m.
