Queen鈥檚 begins a new chapter this week, as Patrick Deane commences his first term as the university鈥檚 principal and vice-chancellor. He arrives to campus having recently completed a nine-year tenure as president and vice-chancellor of McMaster University.
鈥淚 am thrilled to be back at Queen鈥檚 and look forward to connecting with members of the campus community over the coming weeks and months,鈥 says Principal Deane, who served as Queen鈥檚 vice-principal (academic) before his time at McMaster. 鈥淨ueen鈥檚 has built up tremendous momentum in recent years, and I look forward to engaging faculty, staff, students, alumni, donors, and other partners as we work to carry that momentum into the future.鈥
Over the summer months, Principal Deane will begin meeting, talking, and listening to members of the Queen鈥檚 community. He and his spouse, Sheila, will also be busy settling in to their new home, as they have just relocated to the Kingston area. Later this week, he will also be taking part in the university鈥檚 Board of Trustees annual retreat.
Principal Deane, who was announced as Queen鈥檚 University鈥檚 next principal and vice-chancellor during a special event in late 2018, succeeds Daniel Woolf, who served in the role for the past 10 years.
The new principal鈥檚 official installation ceremony will take place during Fall Convocation in November 2019.
