Queen鈥檚 community remembers Professor Emeritus Max Vernet

His 33-year career at Queen鈥檚 included serving as the head of the Department of French Studies.

The Queen鈥檚 community is remembering Max Vernet, a professor emeritus in the Department of French Studies who died Feb. 23 at the age of 86.

Dr. Vernet taught Frech Literature at Queen鈥檚 for 33 years and served as head of the department from 1978-85.

Born in Belleville, France, Dr. Vernet completed his studies at the Sorbonne. After first working as an adjunct at McMaster University, he moved to Kingston and Queen鈥檚 in 1966. He finished his teaching career at the Royal Military College of Canada. 

In addition to his focus on French literature, Dr. Vernet was a passionate soccer player and especially enjoyed playing the game with his friends and sometimes his sons at noon-hour at Queen's.
