The Queen鈥檚 community mourns

Hundreds attend the vigil to remember student Amir Moradi and the other 175 people killed in the plane crash in Iran

Members of the Queen鈥檚 community gathered to remember the victims of Wednesday鈥檚 crash of Ukraine International Airlines Flight PS752 in Iran, including Amir Moradi, a student in the Faculty of Arts and Science.

A funeral service for Queen鈥檚 students Amir Moradi, one of the 176 victims killed when Ukraine International Airlines flight PS752 was shot down on Jan. 8, 2020. The Funeral Service will be held 1:30 pm Sunday, Jan. 26 at Elgin Mills Funeral Center, 1591 Elgin Mills Rd., Richmond Hill, ON. A reception to celebrate his Amir鈥檚 life will follow at 4 pm at Persian Palace Restaurant, 10711 Yonge St. Richmond Hill.

The vigil, hosted by the Queen鈥檚 Iranian Student Association and the Office of Faith and Spiritual Life,  was held in McLaughlin Room at the John Deutsch University Centre (JDUC) and brought together students, faculty, staff, and administration members including Principal and Vice-Chancellor Patrick Deane.

Hundreds of people left messages of condolence after listening to heartfelt words from members of the Iranian Student Association, friends of Moradi, and his cousin. Principal Deane spoke about how the tragedy has had a powerful impact not only at Queen鈥檚 but across the Canadian post-secondary sector as well.
