The community is invited to join the McDonald Institute and the Department of Physics on Sept. 21, as Queen’s welcomes Dr. James Peebles, the 2019 Nobel Prize laureate in Physics, renowned for his pioneering contributions to the field of theoretical physics. His lecture, ‘,’ will delve into the intricacies of our cosmos, shedding light on how we’ve come to understand the Universe and our place within it.

Dr. Peebles is the Albert Einstein Professor Emeritus in Science at Princeton University. Originally from Winnipeg, Manitoba, he later completed his PhD at Princeton, setting the stage for a distinguished career in theoretical physics â€“ work that has deepened our understanding of the Universe’s evolution and structure.

This lecture is free and open to the public. The event is part of the George & Maureen Ewan Lecture Series, an initiative supported by a generous $100,000 donation, which fosters seminar and lecture programming designed to increase scientific discourse and culture within the astroparticle physics community at Queen’s. Dr. George Ewan’s vision was to make scientific work accessible to the general public, emphasizing the importance of research outreach and communication.

The event is hosted by the . Located at Queen’s, the McDonald Institute is Canada’s network for astroparticle physics research, uniting researchers, theorists, and technical experts within one organization.
