As a university with extensive research impact, Queen鈥檚 helps drive innovation and collaboration in eastern Ontario and beyond. Now, Queen鈥檚 will be increasing its commitment to innovative partnerships as a founding academic partner and shared anchor in Hub350, a state-of-the-art global technology centre in Kanata.

Set to open this summer, Hub350 will be powered by the Kanata North Business Association (KNBA). Home to Canada鈥檚 largest technology park, Kanata North is renowned as a vibrant region for technology and innovation. The Kanata North Technology Park hosts more than 540 Canadian and international high-tech businesses that have created more than 33,000 knowledge-based jobs and are contributing over $13 billion annually to Canada鈥檚 GDP.

鈥淨ueen鈥檚 is enthusiastic about enhancing our partnership with the Kanata North Business Association through the Hub350 collaboration, which will contribute to a larger strategy for boosting Queen鈥檚 local, national, and global impact,鈥 says Vice-Principal (Research) Kimberly Woodhouse.

The collaboration builds on Queen鈥檚 existing partnerships with L-SPARK, Invest Ottawa, University of Ottawa, Carleton University, and others.

Hub350 will promote growth on a global scale by bringing together industry, academic, and finance partners to support its member companies. Queen鈥檚 and the centre鈥檚 other academic anchors will help by building productive and collaborative research relationships between industry and academia, and connecting technology companies to the talent they need to grow.

Through Hub350, Queen鈥檚 faculty, students, and staff will have opportunities to connect with companies and other post-secondary institutions in the region to advance research, innovation, and commercialization. Queen鈥檚 and Kingston-based innovators will also have access to a growing technology community serving a breadth of subsectors such as: telecommunications (wireless and photonic); software, data, and cloud service; life-science industries; defense, security, and aerospace; and clean technology.

鈥淜anata North Business Association shares Queen鈥檚 belief in the power of partnerships to accelerate sustainable growth鈥 says Jamie Petten, President of KNBA. 鈥淲elcoming Queen鈥檚 to the academic pillar at Hub350 will allow them to join forces with our other partners and sponsors in this unique ecosystem, generating positive impact and growth for Eastern Ontario鈥檚 technology ecosystem.鈥

The university鈥檚 involvement in Hub350 is being facilitated by Queen鈥檚 Partnerships and Innovation (QPI). QPI develops and facilitates partnerships both nationally and internationally to advance the institution鈥檚 research enterprise, promote the commercialization and protection of inventions, enhance social impact, and strengthen the regional innovation ecosystem.
