The Queen鈥檚 Undergraduate Internship Program (QUIP) has continued to expand, with the first students in Bachelor of Health Sciences soon completing their work terms, as opportunities for next year鈥檚 intern cohort continue to grow. Employers are currently hiring for internships starting May 2022 and September 2022 and there are more than 300 active opportunities.

QUIP provides students with a 12-16 months鈥 work experience after their second or third year of studies at Queen鈥檚. QUIP internships are paid, professionally supervised, career-related positions offering students the opportunity to learn about current advances, practices, and technologies in a range of sectors including business, industry, education, and beyond.

Many internships have remained remote, but based on local public health guidelines, some current positions have been in person, hybrid, or a mixture of settings from month to month. There are more than 391 interns in workplaces right now, which is a 25 per cent increase over the previous year.

鈥淧articipation in QUIP continues to grow year over year,鈥 says Tara Poole, Manager, QUIP, in Queen鈥檚 Career Services. 鈥淨UIP internships provide the opportunity to build technical or job specific skills, but even more importantly, transferrable professional skills. Students are able to explore a potential career choice, earn an income and return to their final year with an understanding of how their education is applicable in employment settings.鈥

QUIP is open to domestic and international students in the Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science, Faculty of Arts and Science, the School of Computing, and the Bachelor of Health Sciences.

鈥淨UIP has really helped me develop useful soft skills and interpersonal communication in a safe and supportive environment,鈥 says Amber Letendre, (BHSc,鈥23) a Junior Policy Analyst Intern at Indigenous Services Canada. 鈥淚 have been able to discover myself in ways that cannot be taught or learned in the classroom. I can comfortably say that not only have I expanded my professional network, but I have been enriched with colleagues and an experience that I will never forget.鈥

Registration for the program is ongoing and it is recommended students register as soon as possible to maximize the time available for attending workshops, one-on-one advising appointments, and exploring opportunities. More information on registration can be found
