Gaels ready to host national women’s soccer finals

WOMEN’S SOCCER
In the OUA final on Saturday, the Queen’s Gaels fell to a 5-1 defeat at the hands of the Ottawa Gee-Gees, earning the silver medal in Ottawa.
Despite the loss the Gaels will play at the USPORTS Women’s Soccer Championship as the host and fifth seed of the eight-team tournament.
The national tournament begins on Thursday, Nov. 9 and the Gaels will play the final match of the opening day, facing the Trinity Western Spartans at 6:30 p.m. at Richardson Stadium.

WOMEN’S RUGBY
The Gaels captured the bronze medal on Sunday at the USPORTS Women’s Rugby Championship in Quebec City, defeating OUA rivals the Guelph Gryphons 36-20 to cap another outstanding season for the program.
On Friday the Gaels lost 10-8 to eventual champions the Laval Rouge et Or, in a hard-fought semifinal. The hosts went on to beat the Victoria Vikes 32-13 in Sunday’s final.
FOOTBALL
The Gaels faced the Western Mustangs in the OUA semifinal on Saturday, losing 47-20 in London, bringing their season to an end.
Queen’s kept it close in the first half and entered the break trailing 19-17. However, the second half was a different story and the Mustangs pulled away to book their ticket to the Yates Cup where they will face the Laurier Golden Hawks, who beat the Windsor Lancers in the other semifinal.
The football season may be over for the Gaels but it isn’t for Queen’s, as the university will host the Vanier Cup – the national final – on Saturday Nov. 25. at 1 p.m. at Richardson Stadium. See the for game and ticket information.
MEN’S RUGBY
The Gaels booked their ticket in the OUA final with a 28-10 win over the Brock Badgers in St. Catharines. With the win the Gaels also earned a spot in the Canadian University Men's Rugby Championship (CUMRC).
Queen’s will meet rivals the Guelph Gryphons for the OUA title Thursday, Nov. 9 in Guelph.
WOMEN’S HOCKEY
The Gaels swept their weekend series with the TMU Bold picking up 2-1 (OT) and 3-1 wins at home. As a result Queen’s improved their record to 3-4-0.
MEN’S HOCKEY
The Gaels beat the Nipissing Lakers 8-1 on Friday but lost 4-3 to the McGill Redbirds on Saturday on home ice. For the season the Gaels are now 6-4-0.
MEN’S BASKETBALL
The Gaels started their season with a pair of lopsided wins on the weekend, beating the Laurentian Voyageurs 85-46 on Friday and the Nipissing Lakers 93-47 Saturday at the ARC.
WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
The Gaels got their season off to a perfect start with two big wins over the weekend, beating the Laurentian Voyageurs 72-45 on Friday and the Nipissing Lakers 82-51 on home court.
WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL
The Gaels opened their season with a pair of straight-set victories against the RMC Paladins. Queen’s swept their crosstown rivals 3-0 (25-15, 25-20, 25-18) on Friday and followed that up with a 3-0 (25-15, 25-16, 25-20) win on Saturday.
MEN’S VOLLEYBALL
The Gaels also opened their season against the RMC Paladins, earning straight-set wins 3-0 (25-20, 28-26, 25-18) on Friday and 3-0 (25-17, 25-14, 25-14) on Saturday.
