Following extensive consultation with several groups, Queen’s has developed a university-wide policy on supporting and responding to students with severe allergies. The draft policy is now posted for community feedback.

The development of a university-wide policy was recommended by the Severe Allergy Review Committee in its . The committee was formed in fall 2015 at the request of Principal Daniel Woolf.

“The policy guides the campus community as we continue to enhance the services and supports available to students with severe allergies,” says Ann Tierney, Vice-Provost and Dean of Student Affairs and chair of the review committee. “While much consultation went into the Severe Allergy Review Committee report, we welcome all feedback on this policy.”

Several of the report’s recommendations have already been implemented, including: 

• The development of an “Ask Us Before You Eat” sign campaign in dining halls and food outlets across campus; 
• The hiring of a dietician in Hospitality Services who is available to consult with students with severe allergies, in addition to one-one-one consultations with the Campus Executive Chef;
• The creation of a with allergy information and resources for students with severe allergies, as well as all students, faculty, and staff; and
• Campus Security and Emergency Services personnel and Queen’s First Aid now carry epinephrine auto-injectors.
