The External Review Committee responsible for reviewing policies and procedures related to academic accommodations for students with disabilities will be on campus in October.

Panel members will be on the Queen’s Kingston campus Oct. 17-19, 2023 to gather information from as many community members as possible. The visit will include faculty-specific drop-in consultations to gain insight and learn about the experiences of faculty, students, and staff. Information regarding the External Review Committee can be found on the Review of Academic Accommodations and Related Procedures at Queen's website.

Those willing to participate in the review can do so in several ways. In addition to daytime meeting hours on campus, evening drop-in sessions will be held daily to accommodate individuals who can only meet at the end of the day. A confidential, is also available for those who prefer to provide their input in writing. The link to the survey, which is hosted on a platform only accessible to the consultants, will remain live until Dec. 1, 2023. All information provided will be treated with the highest degree of confidentiality.

The panel’s work began with a review of all documents pertaining to the Queen’s Academic Accommodations for Students with Disabilities Policy, in addition to looking at comparable policies at universities across Canada. For more than two months, consultants have interviewed Queen’s personnel.

The final report, scheduled to be released in Spring 2024, will be comprised of the observations, conclusions, and recommendations informed by the in-depth collection of data and the wide-ranging experience of the panel members.

The External Review Committee has consulted with a local Advisory Panel organized by Queen’s through a random selection of interested applicants. The Advisory Panel is composed of the following individuals:

  • Megan Ingram, student
  • Amelia Nicholas, student
  • Margaret Cavanagh-Wall, student
  • Sarah Besseau, student
  • Kate Brothers, staff
  • Thomas Abrams, faculty
  • Jane Tolmie, faculty

Please consider making your views known in whatever modality works best for your circumstances.
