Kingston, Ontario- The university was disappointed to learn that the Queen’s University Faculty Association (QUFA) decided to end their participation in the mediation to which both sides had agreed in November.

The university has been negotiating with QUFA on numerous non-monetary demands that they have tabled. Those efforts have been progressing. QUFA’s decision to end their participation in mediation delays the completion of collective bargaining aimed at renewing the collective agreement for faculty, librarians, and archivists.

Representatives of the university and QUFA agreed on November 11, 2022, to apply jointly to the Ministry of Labour requesting the appointment of a conciliator to assist the Parties with their negotiation. Our attention must necessarily turn to preparing for conciliation in January, where we will continue to bargain diligently, and in good faith, to find common ground.  Conciliation is a feature of the Labour Relations Act, 1995, and the Parties have utilized the services of a conciliator in past rounds of bargaining.

The University’s administration respects the collective bargaining process and does not bargain outside of the process. It remains committed to reaching a tentative agreement that is capable of being ratified by both parties. More information concerning the collective bargaining process can be found at /connect/labournews/collective-bargaining-faq-3/.
