120 Queen’s researchers from a variety of disciplines have received more than $14 million in funding from the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC) that will enable them to carry out innovative research projects over the next one to five years.

“Funding from NSERC and other partners is extremely important to our researchers and to Queen’s, which prides itself on being a first-class research institution,” says Steven Liss, Vice-Principal (Research). “The fact that so many of our faculty members, graduate students and post-doctoral researchers from a wide range of faculties received these awards is a testament to the high quality of research across disciplines that is conducted at this university.”

The funding stems from NSERC’s Discovery Grants program and includes postgraduate scholarships and fellowships, as well as the Canada Graduate Scholarship. It will help advance projects in the fields of science, technology, engineering and mathematics.

In addition, three Queen’s researchers were awarded Discovery Accelerator Grants. Valued at $120,000 over three years, these grants are awarded to researchers whose projects explore high-risk, novel or potentially transformative lines of inquiry, and are likely to contribute to groundbreaking advances.

NSERC supports university students in their advanced studies, promotes and supports discovery research, and fosters innovation by encouraging Canadian companies to participate and invest in postsecondary research projects.
