[Michael Fraser]Michael Fraser has been appointed as Queen's Chief
Communications Officer.

Daniel Woolf, Principal and Vice-Chancellor, is pleased to announce that Michael Fraser has been appointed as Queen’s chief communications officer (CCO).

“I am delighted to be joining Queen’s University. It is widely acknowledged that Queen’s is one of the best universities in the country with an excellent international reputation”, says Mr. Fraser. “The opportunity to contribute to the ongoing success and growth of this institution is an honour.”

“I am thrilled to welcome Michael to Queen’s and to Kingston,” says Principal Woolf. “The addition of the CCO to the senior leadership team will allow the university to have a more developed and coordinated strategic communications function. I look forward to working closely with him during the coming months.”

Mr. Fraser brings to Queen’s more than 20 years of experience in the communications field, with extensive senior-level public affairs and strategic communications experience in both the federal and provincial governments. As a chief of staff and trusted senior communications advisor to federal cabinet ministers, provincial premiers and members of parliament, he has a wealth of experience in developing and executing communications strategy, stakeholder engagement and policy development in portfolios that span issues management, public relations, internal and external communications and media relations.

The communications department has been separated from marketing, which has a clearly related but distinct role at the university. Reporting directly to the principal, the CCO will provide the communications leadership, direction and expertise necessary to lead the development and execution of an overarching university communications strategy, building upon the upcoming strategic framework. The CCO will lead the communications team in executing a consistent communication strategy encompassing internal and external communications, media relations, stakeholder engagement and public outreach.

Mr. Fraser joined University Communications on May 1.
