Artists, musicians and actors from the Queen’s community will light up campus during the fourth annual artignite.
“artignite showcases the breadth of student and local talent – there is truly something for every artistic taste,” says Roxy Denniston-Stewart, Queen’s Associate Dean, Student Affairs, and co-chair of artignite. “It is a fabulous opportunity for everyone to experience the richness of the Kingston arts community.”
Some of the highlights of the events on Queen’s campus include:
• Numerous exhibitions at the Agnes Etherington Art Centre drawn from the gallery’s collection
• A performance by the Caledonias, Queen’s only all-female a capella choir
• An exhibition of prints and paintings by fourth-year fine arts students at Union Gallery
• A production by Imaginary Theatre Company, a campus group that produces full-length, original works by students
• A concert by Queen’s Symphony Orchestra featuring many Broadway favourites
The centrepiece of this year’s showcase is Allumage, four distinct installations and events taking place throughout downtown Kingston. Using light as a theme, Allumage encourages a celebration and appreciation of contemporary art through its display in non-traditional spaces.
More than 30 arts and cultural events will occur throughout Kingston from January 25 to February 10.
