Did you make professional or personal resolutions for 2013? Chances are Human Resources (HR) offers a workshop to help you achieve your goals.

“Even though we officially launch the learning catalogue at the start of every academic year, we are continually adding workshops and sessions,” says Shannon Hill, Learning and Development Specialist, HR. “Plus, it’s never too late to sign up for a certificate program because the required courses are offered throughout the year.”

The new received a positive response from staff when it launched last year. HR has added more workshops to this program to meet the high demand.

Another new certificate program, “,” recently started with the first of eight mandatory courses. Staff and faculty can still sign up for the certificate ahead of the next course, “Employment Equity: Moving beyond Compliance,” offered on February 26.

“I signed up for the certificate program to be more aware and sensitive about these issues during my daily interactions with students, faculty and staff,” says Danielle Gugler, the graduate program assistant in the Cultural Studies Program. “The first course, “Human Rights, Queen’s, and You,” was eye-opening. Working through the case studies helped me see human rights from a different perspective than my own and made me realize things aren’t as clear cut as I thought.”

On the personal development side, HR continues to offer a number of wellness programs in partnership with Athletics and Recreation. The popular lunchtime yoga classes have expanded to West Campus. There are still a few openings for classes on main campus. Other lunch-and-learn sessions will be held throughout the winter on topics such as personal finances, healthy eating habits, caring for the aging, and getting restful sleep.

Another important resource for staff and faculty is the employee assistance program (EAP). The voluntary, confidential counselling and support service is available to all employees and their families. EAP counsellors can offer assistance for a wide range of personal issues.
