
This course will explore women’s autobiographical writing in the 20th and 21st centuries. We will study the genre of autobiography generally, and examine the issues and challenges that attend women’s autobiographical narratives in particular. Authors studied will likely include: Simone de Beauvoir, Zora Neale Hurston, Carolyn Kay Steedman, Lynda Barry, Deborah Levy, Colombe Schneck, and Alison Bechdel. Theoretical and critical readings on autobiography will also be included in the course content.
