鈥淚f we鈥檙e lucky,鈥 writes poet and novelist, Ocean Vuong, 鈥渢he end of the sentence is where we might begin.鈥 And so, this course focuses on writing short fiction that attends to the location and context of writers at work. This course will expand the practice of, and the study of creative writing and reading to begin in the world in general, and to be here, specifically. Through guided writing prompts, group seminars and workshop exercises, students will learn how to receive and provide generative and respectful feedback of each other鈥檚 writing as a way of being in community. Students will write weekly reflections, creative responses, and multiple revisions of their own work. By the end of this course, students will have learned different writing techniques and approaches, participated in weekly writing workshops and seminars, read, and responded to contemporary works of short fiction, both their own and that of their fellow writers.
